From Covenant To Glory
Part I
(This teaching is an excerpt from a three-day conference Rev. Barbara Jimenez held in October 2002 entitled From Covenant to Glory)
Each Christian is in the journey of process---from the Outer-Courts to the Holy of Holies; but most never make it beyond the Brazen Altar. Most times it is because we don't understand what is in the contract of the Covenant. What are your rights within the contract?
Let me tell you a story where I learned first hand why we must understand what the contract is or what your rights are as a Christians within the contract. On a recent trip to Paris, I was given a First-Class ticket. This was the first time I had received a First-Class ticket. On other occasions of flying I had been bumped up to First-Class, but this time I had a First-Class ticket. I was so excited because when I got on the plane I was given a comfortable wider seat. I thought all I was entitled to was the wider seat and I was excited knowing that. You may laugh at the fact that I was so excited about the wider seat, but most of you think all you're entitled to is salvation and your happy with that--- even when there is so much more!
I traveled from the U.S. to London to Paris and ministered, and on the way back I still have my First-Class ticket when some one tells me, "Instead of sitting on these hard chairs why didn't you go sit in the First-Class lounge." Well, I didn't know there was a free lounge where you could take a hot shower to refresh yourself. I didn't know there were sofas to rest on and there was fruit to eat. I didn't know there were all of these perks that went with this ticket, because I was so used to going economy. This is so true for Christians today. We are so used to going economy in the Kingdom of God we don't know the blessings coming to us. This is why I say we need to know what our Covenant is. We need to understand with Salvation we have entered into Covenant with God. This word might be milk to some of you or it might be Rhema to others, but if we don't get the basics down correctly and if we don't understand everything that is within the Covenant we will never get to Glory. Do you know what the benefits and conditions of your contract are? We know there is healing, and we understand that there is prosperity, but how many of us are really walking in it? We know it is attainable, because the Bible says, "Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Heb 11:1). Even though we don't see something, even when things aren't happening we need to start coming into an agreement what the facts are. The facts are in the Word of God---Christ did the work at the Cross. It is finished! We are in Covenant with Him. We should receive this truth and speak it. We are in Covenant with Christ.
As a Christian, I am going to come into agreement with what the word says. I don't accept the words of depression, oppression, poverty or any type of ugliness. I am going to quote what the Word says. The Word says, " I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). I am going to come into agreement with what the Word says. A Covenant is a binding agreement between two parties. In ancient times, and as early as the Middle Ages, when a marriage was to take place there was a dowry given. That is how they would come into Covenant---an exchange was made. Something was given and it was that dowry. For example, after Sarah's death, Abraham had realized he had not made provision for Isaac's marriage. What did he do in order to get a wife for Isaac? He got together a box of jewels and provision and he sent it with his servant. He brought provision and received a wife for Isaac. Whenever there is covenant there is an exchange made.
The Blood Covenant is another type of Covenant. It is always consummated by the flowing of the blood. It was common in ancient cultures to make a cut in the flesh to signify that an agreement was reached. This is sometimes referred to as the cutting covenant or the blood covenant. One of the greatest covenants we can all understand is the marriage covenant. For instance, an old Jewish custom when a marriage is consummated they bring the sheet out to all who were waiting to see that the marriage was consummated. When the hymen broke, blood flowed on the sheet, and then the Covenant was made. It wasn't made when the vows were spoken. It was made when the marriage was consummated. In Jewish tradition, when this evidence is shown, the people rejoice because the families are joined together.
